Two primary schools in Bristol have withdrawn children's books that present homosexual relationships in a positive light following protests by the Bristol Muslim Cultural Society. Read the story here.

The plus side for me is that I found out about this very cool picture book where the prince doesn't choose to marry a princess, but another prince! How cool is that??

King & King:
When the queen insists that the prince get married and take over as king, the search for a suitable mate does not turn out as expected.

King & King & Family:
Join newlyweds King Lee and King Bertie on their journey into the noisy jungle. As they float down a river, wild animal families turn out to greet them but the royal travellers suspect something more significant awaits them in the trees. The illustrious pair soon discover that theres no adventure more wonderful than starting a family.

They're also available from the US Amazon as well.

Oh even more bad publicity for Bristol. Christ knows that this city is not fantastic but please do pander to the wants of everyone who disagrees with you and encourage racial and sexual hatred between people.

My god, this pisses me off, don't we want to teach people respect and that being different isn't bad? Grrr!

Sorry, I'll shut up now. Don't want to start whinging when it's not your fault.

Miyazaki - Totoro grins

You can't please all of the people all of the time - and the folks in charge just don't get that. They bend over backwards to please a vocal minority, and what's next? Story books that show women without headscarfs?

Trouble is that this is happening everywhere, so don't feel too bad for Bristol. If the religous freaks make a loud noise, then the GLBT community needs to make a bigger one. You're a local? Start a petition of your own, make a noise! Get yourself in the paper and show these bigots they're not the only ones with a voice!

Good luck!
